Why do the Japanese animators do that? If it had been a straight forward military combat series it would have been great. There was also a halfway decent mecha series that tried to be realistic, but had some really freaking weird Noh scenes intermixed. There was a halfway decent series that came out in the 2000s called Blue Gender, but the episodes were hit or miss, especially with the whiny and ineffectual protagonist. There is a lot that I've forgotten, but if I saw it I might remember it. Now that anime has become more mainstream it seems like there is an abundance of the cutesy stuff and I was wondering if ultra violent and/or serious anime movies are still being released and if so, can this sub-forum make a recommendation? Here are a list of my favorites off the top of my head: I grew up with 1980s/1990s anime and have been out of the loop for awhile.
